Caught the fellow shown on a camera trap along the Ruaka
River (KK17) in Karura Forest (only place where we've caught copyus BTW).
We only have slenders on our list, but this fellow looks a bit larger and heavier like an Egyptian. Have added a bushbuck standing in the same spot for scale. Comments appreciated.
There's a pair of white-tailed mongoose that I frequently see at dusk in the UNON compound, absolutely unmistakable by their size and distinctive bushy silver tails. I'd think this could easily be one of them, or their offspring. Nairobi is well within range.
ReplyDeleteI remember the UNON mongooses and recall seeing both the slender and the white-tailed, which, as you say, are quite unmistakable. The one in the image above is (a) rather far from the UN campus, about 3km, and (b) quite definitely not a white-tailed. The question remains, slender or Egyptian? Thx for your post.
